UFO : A word, rather a term, that instilled a sense of excitement and wonder in almost all of us, since we were a child.
The idea was so fascinating even!
A disc like structure, hovering though the air, presumably filled with aliens, with technologies way beyond our Wildest of imaginations. More than anything, it gave us a sense of beilef.
A belief that something we don’t know about is out there. A belief that we are not alone in this mighty universe and there is so much yet to learn for us as a species!
It is that belief, which has made hundreds of scientists from time immemorial to give their life’s cause in finding out about these mysterious aerial objects.
Picture: A newspaper reports people seeing “saucers” in the sky.
Though there have been instances, several of them in which people have been reported to seeing things like “saucers”, some even claiming to have come face to face with aliens, most of these claims are not well founded and most of them have a scientific explanation to them.
So, when the US Navy authenticated the video of an unidentified aerial phenomena, itraisedthe conversation once again, and the excitement of the enthusiasts was again, clearly visible.
About half an year later, Pentagon, the Headquarters of the US Department of Defense, released these videos officially, saying, that it meant to “clear up any misconceptions” about the videos that had been circulating in public domain since their unauthorized releases.
In a statement release, the department of defense clarified:
” After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena.”
These videos were shot by US Navy officials during the time of their training and confessed to have seen something which seemed to defy the laws of physics.
One of the videos were shot back in 2004, which saw an object hovering above water at the Pacific Ocean and hurtling forward at tremendous speeds.
The videos in 2015, however, showed a similar shaped object rotating in the sky, against the wind.
(You can watch these videos here)
In the videos, the sounds of surprise made by the navy pilots can be heard.
“The ability to hover over the water and start a vertical climb to about 12,000 feet and accelerate in less than two seconds and disappear, is something I have never seen in my life”
These were the words of Commander David Fravor, Retd. US Navy Pilot in an interview with CNN.
The shape of the object, described by many as a “40 feet long tic tac”, coupled by an unseen ability to hover over one place and accelerate even horizontally at an exemplary speed makes it different from any known aviation technology available to man.
These videos were released, “unauthorized” as described by the statement released from the department of defense, by the New York Times in 2017 and in 2018, by a company named To The Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences.
A lot of strings attached became visible after this release of the videos. Chief among them, talks about a mysterious, five year Pentagon program, made to study these UFOs.
The Pentagon Program for UFO:
US defence has a $600 billion annual defence department budget. Out of this, $22 million was spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, and honestly, it was almost impossible to find.
Starting in 2007, the Pentagon, for years, investigated reports of the witnessing of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.
The program was run by Luis Elizondo, a military intelligence official.

Though, the defence department never admitted its existence; and when it did, it specified that it shut down in 2012.
Skeptics however, claim that though the Government Funding was no longer available, that was the only thing that stopped and the program is still in existence.
The program was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who was the Senate majority leader at the time and who has long had an interest in space phenomena.

I’m not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry I got this thing going,” Mr. Reid said in a recent interview, talking about the same program.
“I think it’s one of the good things I did in my congressional service. I’ve done something that no one has done before.”
The Pentagon work went on, but Luis Elizondo, tired of internal politics and secrecy, resigned from his post.
“Why aren’t we spending more time and effort on this issue?” he wrote in his resignation letter to defense secretary Jim Mattis.
But, he assured that the program was being continued by a successor whom he did not name.
Response for the UFO Videos:
The talks of aliens and UFOs have been around since time immemorial.
But in the recent past, these discussions have increased.
Last July, US president Donald Trump said he’d been briefed about the sightings and further said
“I think it’s probably – I want them to think whatever they think. They do say, and I’ve seen, and I’ve read, and I’ve heard. And I did have one very brief meeting on it. But people are saying they’re seeing UFOs. Do I believe it? Not particular.”
So, it was natural that when the videos were released, there had to be some response. And the responses unanimously talked about one theme:
How it was high time for the Pentagon to release these tapes.
Senator Harry Reid, told through his Twitter handle how the videos only scratch the surface of the research and materials available.
Furthermore, Tom DeLonge, the founder of the To The Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, in an emailed statement, wrote:
“We believe that this level of recognition is exactly what is required to eliminate the extreme skepticism surrounding U.A.P. events, so we can finally move forward to sharing and analyzing reliable data from respected institutions.
After 70 years of misinformation, it’s time that we make progress to understand the extraordinary technology being observed during these events.”
However, there are skeptics too, which speak sense.
The astrophysicists believe that there are many possible explanations to what was seen in the videos, including atmospheric effects, some technical bugs in the display systems of fighter jets.
What now that UFO videos are out?
It is really hard, if not impossible, to exclaim whether the videos had UFOs in them or not.
Why did the Pentagon decide to release the footage now? After almost three years of it being circulated in public?
And what do people like Harry Reid mean when they say that it scratches only the surface of the available info?
Are the conspiracy theories that Governments have idea of alien life, but don’t disclose it to the public, true?
Or, is it also something which can be proven by science?
No matter how much we might want the answer to these questions, the reality is, we will have to wait, and hope.
Because hope is a powerful thing. And it is this hope only, the constant hope of some people, which will lead to unveiling of the truth;
The truth, as to whether we are truly alone, or not.
